Therapist North Charleston, SC — a calm tidal creek winding through marsh near North Charleston at golden hour

Therapy for North Charleston, with nearby in-person care and South Carolina telehealth

If you’re looking for a therapist in North Charleston, SC, I want to be transparent about location: I work with adults and couples from North Charleston and throughout the greater Charleston area, but my office is in Mount Pleasant, not North Charleston itself. If you want in-person therapy, Mount Pleasant is the nearby office location. If you prefer to meet remotely, I also offer secure telehealth anywhere in South Carolina.

In short: North Charleston residents can work with me face to face in Mount Pleasant or online from home or office anywhere in South Carolina.

I’m a clinical psychologist and licensed professional counselor who focuses on trauma therapy, betrayal trauma, sex addiction and compulsive sexual behavior, and couples therapy. People often reach out when trust has been broken, a relationship is under real strain, a compulsive pattern keeps repeating, or life looks functional on the outside but feels heavy, anxious, or stuck on the inside.

What North Charleston clients often want help with

My lead specialties are trauma, betrayal trauma, sex addiction, and couples work. I also help people dealing with depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, and recovery after narcissistic abuse or other manipulative relationship dynamics. You can read more on my therapy services page.

Most people do not arrive with a neat label. They arrive with experiences: feeling on edge after something painful happened, replaying a discovery that shattered trust, arguing in the same painful loop with a partner, feeling pulled back into a behavior they have tried to stop, or moving through life exhausted, numb, ashamed, or overwhelmed.

These are human experiences, not moral failures. Therapy with me is individualized; I do not apply a script to your life. This page is educational only and is not a diagnosis, medical advice, or a substitute for individualized mental health care.

Jeff Marcino’s approach to therapy

I’m Jeff Marcino, Psy.D., LPC, a clinical psychologist and licensed professional counselor with 20 years of experience. Long Point Counseling is my private practice, so when you reach out, your new-client request is personally reviewed by me.

I hold advanced certifications in Relational Life Therapy, The Daring Way™, and sex-addiction treatment. My style is warm, direct, trauma-informed, practical, and structured. I want therapy to feel both supportive and useful: a place where you are understood clearly and challenged thoughtfully.

Specialized care matters when the problem is complex. After betrayal, generic advice to “communicate better” can miss the shock, hypervigilance, and loss of safety that many partners feel. With compulsive sexual behavior, shame alone rarely leads to lasting change; treatment usually needs honesty, structure, accountability, and a clearer understanding of triggers and patterns. In couples therapy, high distress often calls for more than venting. It calls for a method that can interrupt destructive cycles and help rebuild respect, trust, and connection.

In-person in Mount Pleasant or online from North Charleston

Some North Charleston clients prefer to come to Mount Pleasant for in-person sessions. Being in the room can offer a focused, protected space away from work, family, and daily distractions. For many people, face-to-face contact makes it easier to stay present with difficult emotions and relationship conversations.

Others choose secure telehealth, and it can be a strong option. Online therapy offers privacy, convenience, and access from home or office anywhere in South Carolina. If traffic, childcare, work demands, or a full North Charleston schedule make commuting difficult, telehealth may make consistent care much more realistic. It works best when you have a private space and a reliable internet connection.

I work with both adults and couples, and either format may be appropriate depending on fit, goals, and what is most workable in your life.

How to start therapy from North Charleston

The first step is simple: start with a confidential request through the website. I personally review every new inquiry.

The initial session is designed to understand what is bringing you in, clarify your goals, and assess fit. That matters. Good therapy depends not only on experience and training, but also on whether the approach matches what you need right now.

Long Point Counseling is a private-pay practice. Working outside of insurance keeps your care confidential and shaped entirely around your goals, never capped by session limits or diagnosis codes. I’m glad to talk through current fees directly, so the financial side is clear from the start. I do not bill insurance. For many people, private pay means less third-party involvement and more flexibility to shape treatment around the actual problem rather than insurance requirements.

This practice is not emergency care. If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself, or need immediate help, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.

If the practice sounds like it may fit what you are looking for, I invite you to reach out. There is no pressure, just a brief first step and an honest conversation about whether working together makes sense.

Why choose a specialized therapist instead of a directory listing?

Directories can be useful for getting oriented, but they often leave people comparing dozens of short profiles without a clear sense of what real treatment will look like. Working directly with one experienced specialist is different.

In a private practice like mine, you get continuity, depth, and a more tailored experience. I get to know the details of your history, patterns, strengths, and goals over time rather than approaching your situation as a generic list of symptoms.

I may be a strong fit if you are an adult or couple dealing with trauma, betrayal, compulsive sexual behavior, relationship crisis, or narcissistic-abuse recovery and you want a therapist who is warm, direct, and structured. I may not be the right fit if you need a different specialty, a higher level of care, or services I do not provide, and if that becomes clear, I will say so.

Choosing a therapist is an important decision. I encourage you to use clear information, ask questions, and make the choice that genuinely fits your needs.

Do you work with clients who live in North Charleston if your office is in Mount Pleasant?

Yes. I work with North Charleston adults and couples regularly, even though my office is in Mount Pleasant. Some people prefer the nearby in-person option because they want a dedicated space outside home. Others choose secure telehealth instead. If you live in North Charleston, we can determine together which format makes the most sense for your schedule, privacy, and goals.

Is online therapy available for North Charleston residents and others in South Carolina?

Yes. I provide secure telehealth to clients anywhere in South Carolina, including North Charleston. Online sessions can work well for adults and couples who need privacy and flexibility around traffic, work, or childcare. As long as you have a reliable internet connection and a private place to talk, telehealth can be a practical and effective way to stay consistent with therapy.

What kinds of issues do you help adults and couples with?

My core specialties are trauma, betrayal trauma, sex addiction and compulsive sexual behavior, and couples therapy. I also work with depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, and recovery after narcissistic abuse. People often contact me because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, ashamed, or caught in painful relationship patterns. Care is individualized, and this information is educational rather than diagnostic.

Do you offer couples therapy for people in North Charleston?

Yes. I offer couples therapy for North Charleston couples in person in Mount Pleasant or by secure telehealth anywhere in South Carolina. I am certified in Relational Life Therapy and often work with couples facing high conflict, disconnection, broken trust, or the aftermath of betrayal. The goal is not just talking about problems, but helping you change the cycle you are stuck in.

Do you accept insurance, and what are your fees?

Long Point Counseling is a private-pay practice. I do not bill insurance. Working outside of insurance keeps your care confidential and shaped entirely around your goals, never capped by session limits or diagnosis codes. I’m glad to talk through current fees directly, so the financial side is clear from the start. For many clients, private pay means less third-party involvement and more flexibility to focus treatment on the actual problem rather than insurance rules. If you have questions about fit or logistics before scheduling, you can ask those when you reach out.

How do I get started with Long Point Counseling?

The first step is a brief confidential request through the website. I personally review new inquiries. In the initial session, we look closely at what is bringing you in, what you want to change, and whether my approach is the right fit. If you are in crisis or need immediate help, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
